Larry Gold

Larry Gold, producer, cellist and most notably, arranger, is as much a part of the true fabric of the Philly music scene as Leon Huff, Kenny Gamble, Thom Bell or The Roots. Larry is the white-hot, in-demand arranger on songs by Jay-Z, Timbaland, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, R. Kelly, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Celine Dion, The Roots, Al Green, Jill Scott, Common, Reba McEntire, Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, Musiq (Soulchild), Anthony Hamilton, Ricky Martin and Erykah Badu and countless others. Larry is proud to be part of eight Grammy nominations that contain his arrangements including CDs by Kanye, T.I., Kirk Franklin, Mary J. Blige and Al Green. Larry will be going to the Grammy's this year to conduct his string arrangement for a duet between TI and Justin Timberlake for the song "Dead and Gone" that he did for TI's last album.

Larry was just in the studio with Kanye West arranging five songs for his recent smash release, 808s and Heartbreak (Roc-A-Fella). Most recently, Larry was in the studio arranging songs for Amos Lee, Ne-Yo, N.E.R.D. while John Legend. T.I. featuring Justin Timberlake, Musiq Soulchild featuring Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J and James Morrison are just some of the artists Larry has worked with in the past year. Rolling Stone remarked about John Legend's Evolver release: "Evolver's tunes and arrangements are as impeccable as the cut of Legend's suits." "IfuLeave", the single from Musiq Soulchild featuring Mary J. Blige, is burning up the Billboard charts...and those strings are Larry's work!

From his very first #1 single, Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine," which lasted 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts, to The Roots Grammy-winning single, "You Got Me"' (featuring Erykah Badu) to Jennifer Lopez's #1 single, "If You Had My Love"' to present day magic with Justin Timberlake on his monumental Top Five singles, the #3 "Cry Me A River" and the #1 "...What Goes Around.../...Comes Around (Interlude)," Larry's days are filled with doing what he loves--making incredible music sound even better. Larry enjoys writing music for animated films and has done so for acclaimed cartoonist Paul Ferlinger and earned an Oscar nomination for the short It's So Nice to Have a Wolf Around the House. They also collaborated on many films for Sesame Street (including the now-classic Teeny Little Superguy series).

As you enter the enormous multi-room recording facility simply known as The Studio in downtown Philadelphia, you can't help but notice this former member of MFSB's scores of gold and platinum records gracing his massive space. Rest assured his impressive array of awards is not a statement of braggadocio, it's merely an indication of Larry Gold's talents.

Drawing on the Studio's reputation as a home base for a new generation of soul stars, Larry recorded Don Cello (BBE Records), his own compilation album (with artists including Black Thought, Gerald Levert, Timbaland, Res, Floetry, Musiq, Glenn Lewis, the Jazzyfatnastees, Carol Riddick, McFadden & Whitehead and Bunny Sigler). He also arranged, conducted, and played cello for Jay-Z's performance on MTV Unplugged with The Roots, as well as conducting his own arrangements for Justin Timberlake's 2006 Grammy appearance, as well as other award shows and live gigs.
